Samwoo Immersion and the National Forensic Service Republic of Korea Launch Research Project on "Automated Fire Scene Reconstruction and VR-Based Investigative Technology"
Samwoo Immersion is expanding the use of VR technologies beyond industrial training into forensic science, enabling investigators to conduct virtual investigations and training without physical or temporal limitations. In 2023, we successfully completed the "VR Simulation Development for the National Forensic Service Republic of Korea" project. In 2024, we enhanced the developed system and deployed it at the Daegu Forensic Research Institute. Building on this, in 2025, we aim to develop and deploy technologies applicable to real-world fire investigations through the "Automated Fire Scene Reconstruction and VR-Based Investigative Technology" project.
Our ultimate goal is to develop and validate VR-based virtual investigation tools specialized for fire scenes, overcoming human, temporal, and spatial constraints in fire investigation and response.
A. Web VR-Based Simulation System
‘VARLOS Web VR Editor’ developed by Samwoo Immersion is a software platform that allows users to create and utilize VR content. It enables users to scan environments with a 360° camera, input data, and generate scenarios to reconstruct scenes in VR using HMDs.
By applying this technology to fire investigations, investigators and stakeholders can create and simulate scenes using actual data in VR, enabling realistic investigations regardless of time and location, and facilitating scenario sharing with third parties.
B. System Components for Automated Fire Scene Reconstruction and Immersive VR Investigation
The system we aim to develop through this research project features the following key elements:

The existing Web VR Editor has already been successfully implemented and validated at the National Forensic Service Republic of Korea and the Daegu Forensic Research Institute for simulation and training purposes.
