Discussion on Applying AI and Digital Twin to Defense
On September 25, Samwoo Immersion held an in-depth meeting with the officer corps of the Navy Education and Training Command’s Information and Communications School to discuss ways to integrate AI and digital twins into the defense domain. The session aimed to explore directions for innovating defense ICT training and to assess the applicability of the latest technologies.
1. Defense Programs and Key References
Over the past 14 years, Samwoo Immersion has executed more than 800 projects across defense, industry, and education, establishing itself as a specialist in XR and digital-twin solutions.
In defense, we have developed VR/MR simulators and debriefing systems for the KF-21, FA-50, and KF-16 fighter aircraft; training systems for submarine machinery and equipment; simulators for the LSF-II high-speed landing craft and amphibious troop transport/launch; and a 3D flight visualization and analysis system for the Air Force.
Through these programs, we have accumulated technologies such as real-time synchronization between physical equipment and virtual environments, high-throughput data processing–based training assessment, and multi-display synchronization and environmental simulation. These capabilities significantly enhance the efficiency and safety of defense training and education.
2. Directions for Applying Digital Twins to Defense
Samwoo Immersion proposed applying specialized digital-twin models to defense, including cyber-defense training, command-and-control simulation, and communications-infrastructure drills. We also introduced large-scale industrial digital-twin projects carried out with partners such as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Hanwha Ocean, emphasizing that expanding these approaches for defense training environments can enable real-time situation monitoring, threat response, and resource optimization.
3. OWLIX AI–Based Training Program
The Navy officer corps showed strong interest in the OWLIX AI–based content presented by Samwoo Immersion. In particular, they agreed to review a training program in which AI simulates external communications attacks, trainees respond and defend, and outcomes are evaluated quantitatively. This approach goes beyond theory-based instruction and is being recognized as a new model for defense ICT training that strengthens crisis-response capabilities in realistic environments.
4. Future Cooperation Plans
Samwoo Immersion proposed a collaboration model with the Navy to implement AI attack/defense simulations, real-time response assessment, and a smart education platform. Building on our proven capabilities from projects such as the Jagalchi Market digital-twin safety control platform and 3D modeling for LNG fuel tanks and smart OTS, we confirmed the potential to evolve these into defense-specialized AI and digital-twin systems.
Samwoo Immersion expressed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Navy and leading the establishment of next-generation defense training systems that integrate AI and digital twins. Going forward, we will work with the Navy to concretize a future-oriented collaboration model as an innovative partner in defense ICT.
