“ It is a great advantage that we can conduct viewing education on smart ports in one space with viewing content and conduct experiential content, and that education can be conducted. ”

I think that the experiences that practitioners or trainees related to smart ports have through watching videos and experiencing VR in places like movie theaters will remain in their minds longer than education through theory. In addition, I think that the educational environment and process have become richer as a tool for fostering smart logistics convergence talents with ICT and DNA capabilities that our business division aims for. I hope that in the future, the quality of education can be improved by adding new VR content in equipment inspection and operation, including audiovisual materials.

Overview

Building a logistics education simulation experience space based on new technology

We, SamwooImmersion, have built an experience center in Busan Techno Park to effectively enhance the understanding of port operations by experiencing the cutting-edge unloading systems of advanced domestic and foreign ports through virtual reality. The experience center consists of one viewing type and three experiential types of smart port content, allowing educators and trainees to experience the advanced technological innovation of the new logistics system.

Building an experience center

Building a large screen and VR experience space for new concept education in smart ports

The experience center, located in the conference room on the 2nd floor of the Busan Techno Park Marine Logistics Industry Center, is a 308.50㎡ (approximately 93 pyeong) space, and was built by dismantling the timber and structure, and constructing the ceiling, electricity, and network. By connecting and linking 5 projectors and simulator equipment, as well as installing a full-screen projection structure, you can experience viewing content through a large 12m wide screen. The interior is configured like a movie theater, and the chairs are foldable movie theater chairs, and a total of 30 people (3 rows, 10 sets) can sit.

There are a total of 5 VR Station Cabins installed on both sides of the full screen, allowing VR experiences, and they are designed so that port logistics industry workers and trainees can experience the characteristics of automated logistics in an interesting way without having to move separately after viewing the content. In particular, it has been customized considering the movement and activity radius of the content for a free and effective experience, and a rubber mat has been installed on the floor for safety reasons to enable an uncomfortable experience.

H/W Solution

Korea Maritime and Ocean University's Smart Port Logistics Division is utilizing three types of Samwoo Immersion's IMXR smart port contents for education using Meta Quest 2.

Experience content using VR HMDVR HMD : Meta Quest 2

VR Station Cabin eliminates physical risks during operation in a 2M x 2M space, providing a smooth experience so that users can experience interactions that are as similar as possible to those they would feel in an actual physical space. The VR HMD, which is utilized to enable greater immersion in virtual reality within the experiential space with a modernized design, utilizes Meta Quest 2 to allow free movement between reality and imagination through spatial and temporal experiences in virtual reality.

4 types of smart port content

Innovative educational content that opens the future, completed with colorful perspectives and in-depth approaches!

The smart port content, consisting of one viewing type and three experiential types, is an educational simulation that effectively increases understanding of port operations by experiencing the cutting-edge cargo handling systems of advanced domestic and foreign ports in virtual reality. By establishing an educational infrastructure that combines advanced ports with mirror-type practice through virtual reality, it enhances the effectiveness of the curriculum for fostering innovative talents and strengthens interaction between instructors and learners through experiential logistics simulation education.

1. Smart Port Viewable Content 1

* Running Time: 20 minutes I Quality: 6528 x 1200 I Capacity: 9.5GB I Language: Korean/English

In the midst of rapidly changing competition among advanced ports, we provide viewable content that reflects actual cases of smart port operation and logistics processes in drone footage to allow you to experience the smart container terminal, a smart port logistics system with the world's best unmanned automation technology. Starting with an introduction to the components of the smart port's automated terminal, a high-quality video was produced that visually implements the terminal configuration, unloading system, and logistics process with a high level of detail and physics-based light processing. The English version of the promotional video helps overseas visitors better understand and experience the concept of a smart port. It not only improves the quality of the visit, but also serves as an effective tool for global promotion and education.

2. 3 types of smart port viewing content

For experiential content, systematic planning and structured composition are used to maximize the educational effect centered on the experiencer, and 1:1 scale 3D modeling is produced with high-quality textures based on real-life references, allowing the user to experience various elements of a realistic smart port.

1Port Escape GameOX Quiz Solution5 minutesYou will solve O X quizzes at each stage of the export process in the main area of the port terminal and earn rewards.
2Reach Stacker OperationEquipment Operation15 minutesWe directly perform loading and unloading of reach stackers (equipment for transporting, loading, and unloading containers).
3Typhoon disaster responseExperience the process10 minutesLearn and experience the importance of pre-work procedures to respond to typhoons at ports.

2-1) Experiential content 1: Port escape game  * Running time: 5 minutes

We created experiential quiz content that moves through the main areas of the smart port terminal implemented with 3D modeling according to the export process, and the main areas, equipment, and import/export processes. The quiz is structured with difficulty levels for the general public, trainees, and employees, so that step-by-step in-depth learning is possible through solutions, and when passing each stage, you can obtain glasses, gloves, a walkie-talkie, work boots, and a work jacket to complete the character who works safely at the port.

If you answer incorrectly to 3 or more questions, the scenario ends, but you can try again by pressing the retry button, which encourages your will to escape the port. You can move through the stages, examine the areas of the port in detail, solve quizzes, and get rewards, and you can experience understanding the efficiency and operating principles of smart ports and building theoretical knowledge.

Specialized technology and construction effects of content

Content that allows you to experience both a 3D environment implementation and a wide environment through ultra-large, high-quality rendering technology

Among the 1,400,000㎡ of fully automated smart container terminal in Busan New Port, the main port area provides a realistic environment. Samwoo Immersion utilized Unreal Engine 5, a specialized technology that connects reality and virtuality, to implement an actual port as is through graphics that pursue photorealism on the same level as movie CG and real life without restrictions such as the number of polygons.

Smart port content, with its high-quality graphics and realistic rendering capabilities, goes beyond the realm of simple visualization and evolves into immersive digital content that encompasses interactive simulation, education, and operational scenario testing, as it is imported directly from the engine without any quality degradation and rendered in real time.

The logistics education simulation experience content based on new technology goes beyond simple educational materials and provides a new realistic experience, thereby injecting various sensory information and making it a memory rather than a forgetting. The logistics education simulation experience for fostering talents and strengthening industrial competitiveness in the era of logistics 4.0 will remain in the brain of connected neurons for a long time through visualization.
