[International Newspaper 18.10.16.] Experience dangerous ship engine assembly with realistic VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) technology

Samwoo Immersion Co., Ltd., beyond a company specializing in developing VR/AR education and training solutions, grafted onto actual industrial sites

VR (Virtual Reality) is a technology that helps people to have real-world experiences in a virtual world created by a computer. It is developing mainly in connection with the game industry at home and abroad. Among these, there are companies in Busan that graft VR into educational content to achieve results. This is the story of 'Samwoo Immersion Co., Ltd.' in Nam-gu, Busan. Samwoo Immersion, established in 2011, is a company specializing in the development of life-based immersive VR AR (augmented reality) education and training solutions. In addition to VR, Samwoo Immersion is introducing a system that can enhance the work efficiency of workers in industrial fields by using AR technology.

Samwoo Immersion CEO Kim Dae-hee (45) said, “After graduating from college, I was very interested in the integration of the ocean and IT while living on a ship. This interest has led to the business of education using VR. The possibilities of educational equipment incorporating VR are limitless,” he said.

Samwoo Immersion CEO Daehee Kim and employees are demonstrating ship-related simulators and VR equipment at the headquarters in Nam-gu, Busan on the 12th. Samwoo Immersion has also applied AR to the actual work site. When workers wear AR devices in factories, etc., they can work while looking at equipment drawings. If there is a central control system, it is possible to collaborate with other workers by sending work images. Such equipment is already being used in smart factories, construction sites, and maintenance fields.

CEO Kim said, “Even if workers do not carry drawings, they can understand the entire facility through AR devices. Even if the name of a part does not suddenly come to mind, it is to increase the efficiency of work through the information displayed in augmented reality.”

To achieve this result, Samwoo Immersion is currently hiring more than 90% of its 27 employees as developers. Samwoo Immersion, which recorded annual sales of 2.2 billion won as of last year, plans to further expand the market with a convergence business using VR and AR. In VR, we plan to create content such as Mars exploration and undersea exploration that ordinary people want to try but give up because of the huge cost. AR equipment and software will be grafted onto a real sailing vessel to make it a remote maintenance system.

CEO Kim said, “I want to make a star company that excels in IT in the region as a small but strong company that specializes in technology rather than being listed or performing externally. It is based on sales, but the goal is to create a company with more than 10 billion won and an average employee annual salary of 100 million won or more.”
