Yangpyeong East Youth Culture House Operates 'Virtual Convergence AI Coding Adventure Camp' for After-School Academy

'Bitnarae,' the Youth After-School Academy of Yangpyeong East Youth Culture House, operated the 'Kuring Virtual Convergence Artificial Intelligence (AI) Coding Adventure Camp' on the 2nd for participating students and local youth.
This camp was designed as an experience-based digital education program utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with the goal of strengthening the digital capabilities of local youth.
The education was an immersive coding learning program using Virtual Reality Head-Mounted Displays (HMD), structured so that even elementary school students with no prior coding experience could easily participate. In particular, the program focused on mission performance and team activities to naturally foster computational thinking, problem-solving skills, and collaboration abilities. Block-coding-based algorithm learning and unplugged activities were combined to enhance learning understanding and participation.
The program was operated in a total of 4 sessions, proceeding through a systematic learning process from basic understanding to application and expansion: ▶ Learning basic theories of computational thinking ▶ Practicing virtual planet coding and usage of VR Head-Mounted Displays (HMD) ▶ Understanding concepts of functions/loops and optimizing algorithms ▶ Exploring future careers using AI and virtual convergence technologies.
This camp was held in cooperation with the Catholic University of Korea and Samwoo Immersion. It was particularly meaningful as professional educators visited the site directly to provide digital experience opportunities based on AI and VR to youth in rural and agricultural areas who normally find such technology difficult to access.
Kang Chul-hee, director of Yangpyeong East Youth Culture House, stated, "While the demand for strengthening digital experience activities continues to increase in the educational field, rural after-school academies face difficulties in providing such programs due to budget and facility limitations." He added, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Catholic University of Korea and Samwoo Immersion for visiting our institution directly to provide youth with the opportunity to experience future technologies."
Meanwhile, the Youth After-School Academy, operated with budget support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and local governments, is a national policy project that provides comprehensive services such as learning support, experiential activities, and lifestyle support for youth in need of after-school care. The 'Bitnarae' academy at Yangpyeong East Youth Culture House is currently being operated for students in grades 4 to 6 of elementary school.
